Status Quo

This totally pissed me off. Killing 31 children for the sake of destroying a humvee?
Unbelievable. What exactly was the suicide bomber trying to achieve? What sort of statement was he trying to make?

For that matter, what were the London Bombers trying to prove? They thought they had it tough? Maybe their parents should have sent them on a field trip to Africa. They might have been worse off than their average British counterpart but still they were way better off than three quarters of the people living in the third world.

What really irritates me is we still don't have a single strong moderate voice in the Islamic world even 4 years after 9/11. When lawyers, high school teachers, fathers and journalists from Cairo to Jakarta try to explain the actions of these suicide bombers there is something wrong. Worse still, think of the influence these guys have over the rest.

Four years after the events of September 11 we are back to square one. Has there been any progress in this war? Nope.

Which country suffered the most last year because of terrorism?

Iraq? Wrong.

Pakistan? Wrong Again.

USA? Wrong (duh! Don't you think the western media would have reminded us atleast a million times)

The answer is India. Yet, not a single leader in the west recognizes this. Not even Mr. Blair Thanks to Musharaff, Pakistan is now a reliable ally in the war on terror. Meaning: He can do whatever he wants in Kashmir cause the rest of the world is looking the other way.

Nice Post!yeah it is very true that there seems to be no moderate voice in the Islamic World. even if there are they are drowned out by the cries of these jehadis. The surprising thing this sort of violent movement has also found acceptance among certain educated there something in the Quran that cultivates such tendencies?

And i also agree that India has borne the brunt of the violence. There seems to be no end to the madness. the threat posed by islam seems to increase every day but the westerm world has turned a blind eye to it.

Anonymous dude:

I love United but that doesn't mean I have to be a big Sir Alex fan! The guy has lost the plot. Although it has to be said the strikers were terrible last year.

Who are you?! Why the anonymity?

Very very true... it's kinda sad that there are jus a coupla faces who are put forward as poster boys of Islamic moderate thought in the western media, but actually command little or no power when it comes to political or ideological activities...

Pps,Sorry to digress but this is an issue i feel very strongly about.

Ferguson rocks???

u must be out of your mind. he used to,but not any more. hes overstaying his welcome and now he's a liability. a pig-headed fool who lets his personal tastes blur his objectivity...y r the nevilles still in the team.y 24 mil £ for veron.y Rooney when the money could have been better spent ?y get smith and bench him? the list is endless. bottom line is Man utd need a fresh approach and tats possible only wit a new manager.

I hope for my buds(vin and pps)that man u do sack ferguson..............and get Jacques Santini!!!!!

I agree with what u say..

The Kashmir issue doesn't carry much weight in the international media coz..

1) The number of people dying in each incident is normally between 2-10 unlike the sep 11 attacks. (what people don't realise is how these numbers add up over time. In fact the total number of people dead by now would be atleast 5 times the count of sep 11..)

2) It's been going on for too long now. And ANYTHING gets boring with time.

3) The countries involved are India and pakistan. Unfortunately, not enough pull to generate media influence..

btw, your blog makes nice reading.. :-)

I know I'm a little late in joining the decision...

When half the population of the world's most developed and probably educated country in the world supported their leader to go to war and kill thousands of innocent people and continue to do so, I can hardly blame these Islam extremists or any other terrorist for that matter. I'm not justifying their actions. I'm only saying 'what else do you expect?'

As for which country suffered the most in the last year because of terrorism, it hardly matters. That's not even the point. Everyone is a loser in war. If you ask an Iraqi mom or an Indian mom or an American mom or a Pakistani mom who lost their sons to war, it doesn't matter to them which country suffered the most. The value of a life doesn't change with the colour of the skin, does it? Heck, how can we even complain when we're still alive and a million others are not???

All I can say is that we're heading back to the Stone Age. For sure! Because we're no better than cavemen with clubs. In fact, far worse.

I think its ridiculous that you have moderates trying to justify suicide attacks. One can clearly see the pain when a Palestinian teenager tries to blow herself. But a British teenager blowing up people from London to protest whats happening in Iraq?

Its like the Americans invading Nepal to remove the Maoists and we have people in Mumbai blowing themselves up just because Nepal happens to be a hindu kingdom.

And its interesting to note that while the Americans sent their troops to two zones in teh 90s to protect the muslims. The recruiting never stopped.

The point I was trying to make is that the fact we are the country with the most body count due to terrorism is not enough to make us stand up and confront it.

Funny that you write about this da - a couple of weeks back, I got into this cab , and this cabbie asks me where I'm from , I say India. and then I ask him where he's from , and he says " Azad Kashmir" , and I thought ' great , this is going to be a fun cab ride'.

for the next ten minutes or so he was telling me about the indian army and what they were doing in Azad Kashmir, and how he liked Vajpayee and how he hates Advani and other stuff like that.

But then at the end of it , he was really nice to me, and had nothing personal. He told me he liked Indians, but the Indian army sucks, and the politicians suck and all.

I dunno da , not sure what to make of this entire thing. To modify an old saying ' One man's POK is another man's Azad Kashmir' ...depends on how you look at it. I think a lot of non-terrorist Kashmiris are also pissed off at the Indian Army. But yeah, terrorism sucks , but sometimes I think that armies can do some nasty stuff that drives normal people over the edge - like the Israelis are doing in Palestine, or how the Indian Peace Keepers' adventures in Sri Lanka got Rajiv Gandhi killed , or Russians in Chechnya and so on.

But yes, I'm all for the moderates da ! In fact, I'm so moderate myself that I've been called psuedosecular on orkut :P

Absolutely true Sharad. Never knew about the Indian army's atrocities in Kashmir till I saw a brilliant documentary on BBC World.

Was it on IPFC Snobs or the India community!?

I dunno da - a lot of people on Orkut hate me , which is why I was jailed most of the time ! Bloody orkutkarsevaks . I think it was mainly India and Indian History.
